AEG NEW YORK HUNTS POINT TASK FORCE CONTRIBUTES TO secure $240M IN FUNDING TO DECARBONiZE HUNTS POINT community

The AEG New York Hunts Point Task Force consisted of 21 state, city, and private organizations. The goal was to focus on understanding all the issues and how they affect the Hunts Point community and publish an understandable story so the greater public can comprehend what is at stake. The Task Force investigated many solutions and possibilities, and it became clear that to eliminate all the idling TRUs, support was needed to move forward with a new produce market facility, however the project was short $240M.

The Task Force provided a letter of support and were successful in receiving $110M from the Federal INFRA Grant on behalf of NYCEDC. The Task Force’s summary document and recommendations were sent to the local lawmakers in the Bronx. More recently, the Capital Projects Appropriations bill for the NYS Urban Development Corp passed including the $130M missing money to build the new produce facility.

AEG WASHINGTON 22Q3 TASK FORCE: DC Water Microgrid Project at Blue Plains Concept Paper & Letter of Support Available

#AEGTaskForce News - DC Water Microgrid Project at Blue Plains Concept Paper & Letter of Support Available: "We would like to inform you about an exciting and innovative DC Water project that will surely be of interest to you and your respective agency/organization, and we are humbly requesting your support for this project." Please see more information below.

In summer of 2022, DC Water was invited to participate in a challenge sponsored by the Advanced Energy Group (AEG) to address Critical Infrastructure, Resilience, and DC’s Carbon and Equity Goals. At AEG, industry leaders present real challenges they are facing and the one with the most pressing needs to be overcome is selected by the attendees. In a robust round of various challenge and solution statements, DC Water won with: "Electrical Improvements and Microgrid Implementation at Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant challenge.  The AEG DC Water Team began the 12-months journey to not only create a challenge statement that supports the District of Columbia's Climate, Health, and Equity Goals, but it also aligns with DC Water's Blueprint 2.0 Organizational Imperative and President Biden's Justice40 Goals.

DC Water is embarking on a 6 year, multi-million-dollar project to upgrade and modernize the electrical distribution system of the Blue Plains Advanced Water Treatment Plant (AWTP), to integrate more distributed energy and renewable resources, with the end goal of creating a microgrid. The microgrid will enhance the reliability and resilience of the operations of Blue Plains AWTP and help achieve the sustainability goals of DC Water. It is consistent with DC Water’s continuing commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will support economic growth for the region, enhance workforce development opportunities and create small and diverse business opportunities.

The successful implementation of this challenging project will require active involvement of critical stakeholders, to obtain strategic input and support to achieve the necessary funding. To address this significant challenge, DC Water requires a comprehensive strategy to be developed in cooperation with a cross-section of key stakeholders to provide continuous support for the implementation of framework strategy which addresses impending challenges and assist in securing adequate funding for the project – this is the critical point where we need your involvement and support!

To register your support for our project, we ask that you PLEASE fill out Page 2 of the attached letter, then return it to me at emanuel.briggs@dcwater.com. By submitting this information, we will also include you on all future correspondence regarding updates, milestones and discussions/meetings on the project. AEG washington 21q4 task force develops interactive heat map with MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & DOEE

The AEG Washington 21Q4 Mobility & Transportation Task Force has made significant strides towards completing their 12 month solution to: “Propose development of specific multi-modal EV hub taking in account equity, access, interconnection and cost.”

The Task Force has identified parameters for a Multi Use EV Charging hub: 10-15 acres, likely outside of D.C., and will require considerable amounts of power (4.5MW per acre).

The Task Force created an interactive heat map with Maryland Department of Transportation and DOEE (pictured above). The map considers demographics and other factors for siting as an indicator of potential susceptibility to environmental pollution, with a focus on 295 Corridor as a transportation gateway into DC.

The Task Force’s next milestone
is to launch the Heat Map, and have a meeting with DC Council.
